One day I was making lunch for the twin six-year-old boys that I take care of. We were all in the kitchen. Jacob and Orion were sitting at the table while I was preparing the food. As I was cutting and apple, Jacob asked, "Jacquie, do you like to eat cotton-flower?" I didn't respond right away as I was trying to figure out what cotton-flower is. After a few seconds I gave up and asked, "Well, I don't know. What is cotton-flower?" And in Jacob's cute little voice he said, "It's the big plant that's like broccoli but its white and looks like clouds!" Oh my goodness! After I laughed I told him that it was actually called cauliflower, and yes, I do like to eat it! So cute!

Knapp's Castle
Knapp's Castle is a mansion in the San Ynez Mountains near Santa Barbara. It was destroyed by a forest fire and now only the sandstone foundations, fireplace pillars and walls remain. A few weeks ago, Garrett and I woke up at the wonderful hour of 4:30 am. We drove to the San Ynez Mountains and hiked a short way to the sandstone ruins. As tired as we were, it was totally worth losing those few hours of sleep to watch the sun rise and the clouds stir beneath us. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place!

Happy Birthday Mady and America!
On July 3rd, Garrett's little sister turned 3 years old! Can't believe it! She has grown so much! Mady is so smart and beautiful! The Mattos Family gathered at Sun Splash Water Park for Mady's birthday celebration. It was such a great day!

Every year on the Fourth of July, Garrett and I go to Garrett's dad's house. Garrett's dad is the Commander of Operations of their local police. Lucky for us, we get to use his connections for special parking, free food (delicious grilled chicken on a stick!!!) , and great seats for the fireworks show! And it was so great to spend extra time with Jeannie (Garrett's brother's wife)! I love her! We loved watching Mady just sit and gaze at the fireworks. She is so adorable! We always love to visit Tim, Val and Mady every year! It's always an awesome trip every year! Thank you for the wonderful weekend!

BIG Birthday Cake
Once again I've slacked on my blogging duties. I now begin to play catch up.....
Over TWO months ago Diana Haskins, a wonderful sister in our ward, celebrated her 50th birthday. Lucky for me she needed a BIG birthday cake for her BIG birthday party and she asked me to make it for her! I had a BLAST coming up with the design, with lots of help from our housemate, Alisha. This was my first tiered, fondant, and gum paste cake. All of the orchids are real flowers, but ALL of the hydrangeas were made by hand out of gum paste by yours truly. After hours and hours of decorating and lack of sleep, I wasn't a fan. I truly disliked this cake. But after having some time apart from the cake and taking a short nap I came to love it!
As I was setting up the cake Diana came to see and immediately began to cry. I was so touched! She is so sweet! Garrett and I were invited to return to the party after dinner to watch a movie on the outdoor projector screen (so awesome). When I got there Diana insisted on introducing all of her guests to the cake decorator. Apparently the cake was the talk of the evening! I'm so happy that everyone liked the cake as much as I do, and I hope that you do too....
